LESSON INSTRUCTION

INTRODUCTION

  1. Show students a word problem flashcard and read it aloud to the class.
  2. Ask students what they think the problem is asking and what information they need to solve it.
  3. Model how to identify key information by circling or underlining it on the flashcard.
  4. Ask students to help you write an addition sentence that matches the problem on the whiteboard.

INSTRUCTION

  1. Provide students with a set of word problem flashcards.
  2. Model how to read and comprehend each problem and how to identify key information.
  3. Model how to use manipulatives to solve the problem and how to write an addition sentence that matches the problem.
  4. Provide students with additional examples of word problems and guide them through the process of solving and writing addition sentences.

GUIDED PRACTICE

  1. Work with students in small groups to solve and write addition sentences for word problems using manipulatives.
  2. Provide feedback and support as needed.

    INDEPENDENT PRACTICE

    1. Provide students with an addition worksheet containing word problems for them to solve and write addition sentences.
    2. Circulate around the room to provide support and guidance as needed.

      HOMEWORK

      1. Provide students with a homework worksheet containing word problems for them to solve and write addition sentences.
      2. Encourage students to use manipulatives to help them solve the problems.
