    LESSON INSTRUCTION

    INTRODUCTION

    Introduction (5 minutes):

    • Greet the students and review the names and colors of the unifix cubes.
    • Ask students if they know what addition means and if they have ever added objects together before.
    • Explain to the students that today, they will be adding unifix cubes together to make sets up to 5.
    INSTRUCTION

    Instruction (15 minutes):

    • Demonstrate how to make a set of unifix cubes by connecting them together.
    • Model how to count the total number of cubes in the set.
    • Introduce the concept of adding two sets together to make a total of up to 5.
    • Model how to add two sets of unifix cubes together by counting the total number of cubes in each set.
    • Provide opportunities for students to practice counting and adding sets of unifix cubes together.
    GUIDED PRACTICE

    Guided Practice (15 minutes):

    • Divide the students into small groups and provide each group with a container of unifix cubes.
    • Instruct the students to work together to make sets of up to 5 and add two sets together to make a total of up to 5.
    • Circulate around the room to provide support and guidance as needed.

      INDEPENDENT PRACTICE

      Independent Practice (15 minutes):

      • Instruct students to work independently to create their own sets of unifix cubes and add them together to make a total of up to 5.
      • Monitor students' progress and provide support as needed.

        HOMEWORK

        Homework (10 minutes):

        • Assign students to create their own sets of unifix cubes at home and add them together to make a total of up to 5.
        • Encourage students to bring their sets to share with the class during the next lesson.

          EXIT TICKET

          Exit Card Formative Assessment (5 minutes):

          • Provide each student with a whiteboard and marker.
          • Instruct students to write a number sentence that represents adding two sets of unifix cubes together to make a total of up to 5.

            ASSESSMENT

            Assessment:

            Formative assessments will be conducted during the lesson to monitor student progress and understanding. The exit card and progress monitoring assessments will determine the student's mastery of the objective.

              CLOSURE

              Closure (5 minutes):

              • Review the concept of adding sets of unifix cubes together to make a total of up to 5.
              • Ask students to share one thing they learned during the lesson.
