LESSON INSTRUCTION
INTRODUCTION
 Review counting to 1 and 2 with the class, using a ten frame to demonstrate.
 Show students a ten frame with three squares filled in and ask them to count with you.
INSTRUCTION
 Distribute a ten frame and counting objects to each student.
 Demonstrate how to place one object in each square of the ten frame to represent the number 1.
 Have students practice counting to 1 using their ten frames and counting objects.
 Demonstrate how to place two objects on the ten frame to represent the number 2.
 Have students practice counting to 2 using their ten frames and counting objects.
 Demonstrate how to place three objects on the ten frame to represent the number 3.
 Have students practice counting to 3 using their ten frames and counting objects.
GUIDED PRACTICE
 Divide students into pairs and have them take turns placing objects on the ten frame while their partner counts.
 Circulate around the room to provide support and guidance as needed.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
 Instruct students to work independently to place objects on the ten frame to represent the numbers 1, 2, and 3.
 Monitor students' progress and provide support as needed.
HOMEWORK
 Assign students to practice counting to 3 using a ten frame and objects at home.
 Encourage students to bring their ten frames to share with the class during the next lesson.
EXIT TICKET
 Provide each student with a whiteboard and marker.
 Instruct students to draw a ten frame and place objects on it to represent the number 3.
FORMATIVE
 Provide each student with a ten frame and counting objects.
 Instruct students to place objects on the ten frame to represent the numbers 1, 2, and 3.

TEACHING TIPS
Use the Ten Frame Race game as an extension activity for students who have demonstrated mastery of counting to 3 using a ten frame. The game can be modified to increase the number on the ten frame to 5 or 10 to challenge students who are ready for more advanced counting concepts. Additionally, the game can be used as a fun review activity to reinforce counting skills before moving on to more complex math concepts. Encourage students to work collaboratively and provide support as needed to ensure a successful learning experience.
 Use handson materials: Utilize manipulatives such as counting objects and ten frames to help students visualize and understand the concept of counting to 3.
 Encourage student participation: Allow students to work in pairs or small groups to practice counting using ten frames and counting objects, and ask students to share their answers and thought processes.
 Provide opportunities for practice: Assign homework and provide inclass practice to give students the chance to apply their understanding of counting to 3.
STUDENT MISCONCEPTIONS
 Confusing numbers: Students may have difficulty differentiating between the numbers 1, 2, and 3, and may count the same set of objects multiple times.
 Misplacing objects on the ten frame: Students may not place objects in the correct squares on the ten frame, or may skip squares, leading to inaccurate counting.
 Counting beyond 3: Students may continue counting beyond 3 when using a ten frame, not realizing that the frame only represents numbers up to 3.
