LESSON INSTRUCTION
INTRODUCTION
- Begin the lesson by asking students what they know about expanded and standard form of numbers.

INSTRUCTION
- Explain the process of converting a number from expanded to standard form using the example: 9,000 + 300 + 60 + 4 = 9,364.
- Emphasize the importance of place value in the process of converting from expanded to standard form.
- Demonstrate how to identify the place value of each digit in the number.
- Model the process of writing the standard form of the number using the place value of each digit.
GUIDED PRACTICE
- Give students several examples of numbers in expanded form and ask them to convert them to standard form using the steps you have modeled.
- Monitor the students as they work and provide guidance and feedback as needed.
- Encourage students to work in pairs or small groups and use think-pair-share to discuss their strategies and solutions.
