Greetings, educators and parents! Welcome to another TeachTastic lesson plan designed to enhance your teaching experience. Today, we'll delve into the exciting world of spelling with our resource, "Spelling Short i Words." This three-worksheet set offers diverse learning opportunities for students, making it a valuable addition to your curriculum.

Title: Spelling Short i Words

Description and How to Use in a Classroom:

This resource provides three worksheets for different learning contexts. The first sheet is ideal for guided practice, the second for independent or peer-grouped practice, and the third for homework, exit tickets, formative assessments, progress monitoring, additional practice, or intervention. Remember, not all worksheets are meant to be used on the same day; the lesson may span a day or multiple days based on your teaching pace.

Use for Guided Practice:

Learn with an Example:

  • Question: Which word matches the sentence?

  • Key Idea: When a vowel precedes only consonants, it usually makes a short vowel sound. The letter 'i' is a vowel and, in such cases, makes a short 'i' sound (/ĭ/), as in 'pit' or 'bit.'

  • Solution: Look at the sentence, "The (blank) is big. (pit, bit)" - Which word completes the sentence? It shows the word 'pit.' The pit is big.

Use for Independent or Group Practice:

Provide students with the second worksheet for independent or peer-grouped practice.

Use for Homework or Additional Practice:

Assign the third worksheet for homework or use it for additional practice.

Use for Exit Ticket/Formative Assessment:

Utilize the third worksheet for exit tickets or formative assessments.
