Math IEP Goal to add and subtract within 20 to solve word problems

Goal:

By May 12, 2023, when given word problems, Student Name will add and subtract within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing with unknowns in all positions, improving operations and algebraic thinking skills from 0/10 work samples out of ten consecutive trials to 8/10 work samples in ten consecutive trials.


Specific Objectives:

  • Student will identify the operation to be used to solve a word problem.

  • Student will represent the problem with manipulatives or drawings.

  • Student will solve the problem using the correct operation.

  • Student will check the answer to the problem.

Data Collection:

  • The teacher will collect data on the student's ability to solve word problems by observing the student and recording the number of problems the student solves correctly.

Interventions:

  • The teacher will provide the student with explicit instructions on how to solve word problems.

  • The teacher will provide the student with opportunities to practice solving word problems with manipulatives and drawings.

  • The teacher will provide the student with feedback on their work.

Progress Monitoring:

  • The teacher will monitor the student's progress toward the goal on a weekly basis.

  • The teacher will adjust the interventions as needed to help the student achieve the goal.

Accommodations:

  • The teacher will provide the student with a quiet place to work.

  • The teacher will allow the student to take breaks as needed.

  • The teacher will provide the student with additional time to complete work.

Modifications:

  • The teacher will provide the student with simpler word problems.

  • The teacher will provide the student with more explicit instruction on how to solve word problems.

  • The teacher will provide the student with more opportunities to practice solving word problems.

Evaluation:

  • The teacher will evaluate the student's progress toward the goal at the end of each quarter.

  • The teacher will make adjustments to the interventions as needed to help the student achieve the goal.
